# BankRegReports

> Regulatory financial data on every FDIC-insured US bank and federally insured
> credit union, drawn from FFIEC Call Reports, UBPR, FDIC, Federal Reserve, NCUA,
> and SEC EDGAR, cleaned and cross-linked into one queryable dataset.

## What this is

US bank regulatory data is public, and almost unusable in the form it is
published. It arrives as pipe-delimited bulk files with cryptic MDRM codes, four
competing unit conventions, schema changes between quarters that are not
announced, and no shared key linking FDIC, FFIEC, Federal Reserve, and SEC
identifiers for the same institution. Getting it to a state you can analyze takes
months.

Enterprise data platforms solve this at $20,000 to $200,000 a year on multi-year
contracts. BankRegReports is the middle ground: the same cleaned,
cross-source-linked data through a web app and a REST API, at a fraction of that.

The data: More than 12,000 regulatory data items (3,821 Call Report line items, 2,196 FR Y-9C items, 1,184 NCUA 5300 items, 675 FFIEC 002 items, 568 FR Y-15 items, 544 FR Y-15 items for foreign banking organizations, 254 FFIEC 101 items, 80 FFIEC 102 items, and 2,792 UBPR ratios), plus 1,929 standardized measures (892 per bank and 357 per bank holding company) built from them.

## What you can look up

- **Any bank or credit union**: current filing facts, quarterly history, capital,
asset quality, profitability, liquidity, deposits, securities, branches.
- **Peer comparison**: screen and rank institutions on the metrics that matter,
  against peer groups you define.
- **Structure**: holding-company hierarchies, ownership, mergers, acquisitions.
- **Events**: bank failures, enforcement actions, material events.
- **Metric definitions**: every glossary metric with its formula, the FFIEC
schedule it comes from, interpretation thresholds, and a worked example.

## How to get the data

| You want | Use |
|---|---|
| To look something up | The site: <https://www.bankregreports.com> |
| Data in code | The API: <https://www.bankregreports.com/api/> |
| Python specifically | `pip install bankregreports` |
| LLM tool calls | The MCP server: <https://api.bankregreports.com/api/mcp/> |
| The full API contract | <https://www.bankregreports.com/openapi.json> |
| Agent integration guidance | <https://www.bankregreports.com/AGENTS.md> |

If you are collecting at scale, use the API. It returns typed JSON with explicit
units and periods, one call replaces hundreds of page fetches, and it is
versioned so your code breaks loudly rather than silently. Automated bulk
collection from the HTML pages is prohibited by the Terms of Service.

## Data sources

| Source | What it provides |
|---|---|
| FFIEC Call Reports | Quarterly bank financial statements (forms 031, 041, 051) |
| FFIEC UBPR | Uniform Bank Performance Report ratios and peer percentiles |
| FDIC | Institution directory, branch records, failure history |
| Federal Reserve | Holding company filings (FR Y-9C), structure, ownership |
| NCUA | Credit union 5300 call reports |
| SEC EDGAR | Public filings for listed institutions |

Filings are quarterly. A figure without its report date is not a fact, so every
number on this site carries the period it belongs to.

## Common questions

### Is it free?

Yes, to start. The free tier covers every FDIC-insured bank and every federally insured credit union, with the same
history as Pro, peer benchmarking, custom peer groups, rankings, risk analysis,
alerts, the Excel add-in and 200 API calls a day. Pro is one
plan for the BRR Terminal and the API: it adds Excel tearsheets, CSV
exports and 10,000 API calls a day. Pricing:
<https://www.bankregreports.com/pricing/> and
<https://www.bankregreports.com/api/pricing/>

### Which institutions are covered?

Every FDIC-insured US bank and every federally insured credit union, from the
largest G-SIBs to the smallest community institution. Coverage is not tiered: if
the filing exists, it is in the platform.

### How current is it?

Filings are quarterly. We load a new quarter within 2 business days of the FFIEC release and pick up amended filings within 7 days. The filing calendar is at
<https://www.bankregreports.com/call-report-filing-schedule/>

### Where do the numbers come from?

Primary regulatory filings, listed above. Derived metrics are computed by
BankRegReports from those filings; every metric's formula is published in the
glossary at <https://www.bankregreports.com/glossary/>

## About this document

This is the markdown twin of <https://www.bankregreports.com/>. It carries no
live figures by design: counts and totals change every quarter, and a stale
number in a cached mirror is worse than no number. For current values, query the
site or the API.

Source filings are public record; the cleaning, normalization, cross-source
linkage, and derived metrics are BankRegReports' own. Attribute with a link.
