Profitability Analysis

Free

Return on equity taken apart: each income statement line's share of average assets and contribution to return on assets, the leverage on equity, the three-factor view, what moved return on equity, history and peers, with each line's Schedule RI item and MDRM codes.

About this dataset

Profitability Analysis is a Free dataset in the Banks group of the BankRegReports Data API. It is sourced from FFIEC Call Report Schedules RI, RC and RC-K (BankRegReports).

The bank's return on equity taken apart from the Call Report income statement (Schedule RI, as published for the single quarter), Schedule RC-K average total assets and period-end equity capital. `history`: up to 20 quarters of the published return on equity, return on assets and efficiency ratio with the asset-tier quartiles. `detail`: each quarter, newest first, with every income statement line's amount, its annualized share of average assets and its signed contribution to return on assets (the contributions add to return on assets), the leverage that turns return on assets into return on equity (average assets over the average of this and the prior quarter's equity), the three-factor view (net income to revenue, revenue to average assets, leverage), and checks that the figures tie to the published ratios. `changes`: what moved return on equity since the prior quarter and since a year earlier (where served), each line's effect plus the leverage effect, in basis points, adding to the change. `peers`: one row per peer (the bank's similar banks, or the `peers` you pass), measured the same way for the same quarter, with quartiles and the bank's percentile. Every line carries its Schedule RI item and MDRM codes. Rates are percent (0-100), annualized as the quarter times four; dollar amounts are thousands.

When to use it

Profitability Analysis sits in the Banks group of the Data API. Reach for it when your work needs this data straight from the API: it comes back as JSON you can load into a notebook, a spreadsheet or a scheduled pipeline, with the dataset key profitability_analysis naming it the same way in the REST path, the Python SDK and the OpenAPI document.

Access and authentication

This dataset is in the Free tier. Send your API token in the Authorization header as a Bearer token, using a GET request to the endpoint above. The Free plan is the first plan that includes it. Check the plan comparison for request limits, and the data update schedule for when new filings reach the API.
