Definition
Includes the amount of closed-end loans secured by first liens on 1-to-4 family residential properties (in domestic offices) included in Schedule RC-C, item 5367 that have a floating or adjustable interest rate. A floating or adjustable rate is a rate that varies, or can vary, in relation to an index, to some other interest rate such as the rate on certain U.S. Government securities, or to some other variable criterion the exact value of which cannot be known in advance. Therefore, the exact rate the loan carries at any subsequent time cannot be known at the time of origination. For purposes of this item, even if the rate on a loan with a floating or adjustable rate can no longer float because it has reached a floor or ceiling level, the loan is to be reported in this item as an adjustable rate loan. Also, amortizing fixed rate loans secured by first liens on 1-to-4 family residential properties that have original maturities of one year or less and require a balloon payment at maturity are included in this item.
